MN Carry Permit
Course Goal: Provide awareness of ramifications and responsibilities that accompany carrying a firearm. Go into greater detail than required under State law. Our clients leave with a comprehensive understanding regarding the how's and why's of carrying a firearm for personal protection. Course lessons include:
- Fundamentals of Pistol Use
- Successful Completion of an Actual Shooting Qualification Exercise
- The Fundamental Legal Aspects of Pistol Possession, Carry and Use (including Self-Defense and the Restrictions on the Use of Deadly Force).
Length: 6-8 hours
NRA Basic Pistol
Course Goal: Basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to safely owning and using a pistol. Course lessons include:
- Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
- Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
- Firing the First Shots
- Two-Handed and One-Handed Standing Shooting Positions
- Pistol Sports and Activities
Length: 10 hours
NRA Personal Protection in the Home
Course Goal: Develop basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to safe and efficient use of a handgun for self- and family-protection and provide information on law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense. Course lessons:
- Introduction to Defensive Shooting
- Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
- Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force
- Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
- Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
- Other Training Opportunities
Length: 8-10 hours
Practical Pistol Primer
Course Goal: Introduction to practical pistol competition shooting, specifically USPSA. This class is offered as either a half-day, classroom only; or a full-day, classroom and live-fire. Course lessons:
- What is Practical Shooting
- Getting Started: Your First Match
- Range Commands and Safety
- Divisions and Classification
Cost: $50
Length: 3-4 hours
Full Day Classroom & Range Time
Cost: $135 (includes $10 range fee)
Length: 6-7 hours
Defensive Handgun I
Course Goal: Introduction to defensive handgun skills. A significant portion of this course is spent on the range shooting, so appropriate outdoor attire is required. Course lessons include, but are not limited to:
- Drawing From a Holster
- Malfunction Clearing
- Strong-Hand vs Weak-Hand Shooting
- Cover vs Concealment
- Reloading Techniques
Length: 6-8 hours
Recommended Equipment
The following recommendations apply to all classes excluding NRA Basic Pistol and the classroom portion of Practical Pistol Primer. A bag lunch is recommended for full day classes. Depending on class location, a refrigerator and microwave may be available, but please confirm before your class date.
- Handgun
Please bring a quality, usable handgun. Recommended manufacturers include: Glock, H&K, Sig, 1911 variants, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Colt, Browning, STI/SVI, etc.
Jennings, Bryco, Hi-Points, etc are not recommended. - Magazines - a minimum of three (more is better)
- Strong-side hip holster
Recommended: Good quality leather holster with reinforced opening or kydex. No shoulder holsters, ankle, cross-draw, belly-band, Smart-Carry (or variant) allowed.
- Magazine carriers - at least two (more is better)
- Eye & Ear Protection
- Sunblock
- Hat
- Bottled water, Gatorade, etc
Water is not always readily available. Please bring fluids to stay hydrated.
